Story and Comments.: The 39 point antlers were officially scored at 304 6/8 making it the largest rack on a deer ever killed by a hunter in the world.

Only two others have ever scored higher but they were found and picked up without anyone knowing how the animal died.

One was the Missouri Monarc that scored 333 7/8 and the other was Hole In The Horn rack that was 328 2/8.

The Missouri rack was found near St. Louis in 1982, andthe Hole In The Horn deer was found dead near a railraoad track near Ravenna, Ohio, in 1940.

I couldn't believe it when they came up with the final score, said Beatty, a 31 year old telephone company employee from Xenia, Ohio. I expected it to be high, but not this high.

When Beatty shot the deer, he had the rack scored by a veteran scorer for Boone and Crockett, the worldwide organization that scores and records record whitetail deer kills. Deer are scored using a measuring system that takes in the size of the antlers and the distance between individual tines.

It was scored right after it had been killed at 291 3/8. However, Boone and Crockett requires official scoring to be done after a 60 day drying period, which was set up April 8, 2001.

Previously, the largest deer known to be taken by a hunter was one from Mississippi that scored 295.
