Year of Harvest: 2002 Time of Harvest: 7:35 Story and Comments.: Hi my name is James Clarke and I live in Scioto county Ohio. I took this nice 8 point on 11 4 2002 on my dads property with a Pse crossbow. After suffering a mild stroke in august my hunting and other abilities have been limited but I didn't let that stop me on this morning. After arriving at my stand around 6 am. I could here deer moving around me but couldn't see because of the darkness. Around 7 am I decided I would try to rattle for a few minutes after rattling for a few minutes with my rattle bag I gave a few grunts from my grunt call and sprayed some Jackies premium buck lure in the air. But to no avail I didn't see anything I waited till around 725 and decided to try again I got a little more aggressive this time with my rattling and sprayed more Jackies in the air and grunted 4 times but nothing. I was beginning to give up so I set back down and looked at my watch it was now 735 am. I turned to my right to look and seen a deer coming across the logging road. I stood up and noticed that it was a buck. I had to make myself not stare at his rack as I raised my Pse Starfire 2 crossbow. He stopped about 45 yards out behind a tree and started smelling the air. I thought for sure I was busted but he started shaking his head around and his ears laid back. That's when I knew he was looking for the 2 bucks fighting I had created with my rattling bag. By this time around 3 minutes had passed and with my physical condition my left arm was tiring but I knew if I let the bow down he would see me. Just then he started walking closer to me and when he reached a clearing about 25 yards out I let out a doe bleat with my mouth and stopped him and made the shot. He went about 75 yards and expired. I'm glad that I didn't let my ill health keep me out of the woods on this morning. Keep up the good work on the site I really enjoy seeing deer taken from real hunting conditions not fenced in.
