Story and Comments.: It was a "seeking" phase rut hunt. I was on the ground in a transition zone between two bedding areas. At first a doe came in to withing 5 steps and spooked off when she saw me. A bit later another doe, following the same path, came toward me, but headed a different way. Not 5 minutes later a good buck, with his nose to the ground, was trailing the doe. Instead of following her trail, he kept on going on to my fake scent trail. He came to 8 steps in front of me and I let the arrow fly! Double-lunged him and found him about 75 yards away! It was a fantastic hunt! I shot him with my Browning Mirage Bow, used estrous scent on the ground in my area and was concealed by Mossy Oak Break-up Camo. 7:50 am, November 10, 2004. In Southeast Kanas, not far from Ft. Scott.
