Story and Comments.: It was a warm October Monday, I had to work till 3:00pm. I couldn't quit watching the clock. I just wanted to get home, get my bow, and hit the woods. I had seen a monster buck twice where my stand was. Both times I'd seen him, I was walking into my tree-stand, so time was very important. I get my shower and away I go. I get to my stand and begin climbing. I'm set up, that monster buck can come anytime now. I begin giving some soft contact grunts, three of them. I wait about ten minutes then I hear one coming right behind me. It has to be him! I've seen him twice in this area. There he is, no wait that's a different buck. Looks like a small 8 pointer. He's small but he would look good on the wall. He's about 25 yards away but I just can't get a clean shot at him. Then he turns and walks to my right. He moves out of my range. I fumble for my call and drop it. The 8 pointer still has no idea I'm here but I have to watch him walk away. No worry though I still have that monster, maybe he will come by. The only problem is my call is on the ground. If I wasn't in such a hurry to get here maybe I would have remember to bring my other calls. I sit till dark, I'd seen 2 does but no sign of the monster and the 8 pointer never comes back. Now its Tuesday I hunted from after work till dark but I didn't see a single deer. I'm thinking on my way out of the woods that maybe they're on to me, maybe I hunted him too much. I stick it out a couple more days, then I'll move on to somewhere else I thought to myself. It's Wednesday, I'm at my tree the same time I was here Monday and Tuesday. I begin climbing and I here something. I look and its that same 8 pointer I had seen Monday. He doesn't know I'm here. I'm only about ten feet off the ground, he's just standing there but he doesn't look like he knows I'm there. Then he beds down right there, only 20 yards away but my bow is on the ground, with my rope attached to it. I watch the deer for an hour and a half I decided to pull my bow up and I do with out him seeing me. I can't believe it, this is it he's mine I get my arrow ready. Wait there someone walking up the path he's coming toward me. I recognize him, its my buddy Dan. He keeps coming he's about 35 yards away, I motion to him and he sees me. I signal to him that I have a buck right below me he gives me the ok sign and sneaks back down the path. Ok now, if he would only stand up and give me a shot. He does, I draw back and drill him its a clean shot. I see him go down I got em! I can't believe it! My first stop on the way home with my buck was at my buddy Dan's house. We had a couple beers and laughed at the story of the 8 pointer.
