Story and Comments.: I combined a still hunt with rattling and using the doe estrus bleat can as I worked deep into the woods on a loop I had programmed in my GPS. At about 9:30 in the morning I saw four does feeding, but until midday nothing had responded to my calling. I was at the farthest point of my loop when I decided to rattle as loud as I could for a solid couple of minutes and then sit down on a log to eat my lunch. 5 minutes later I had a pretzel in one had and my PB&J in my mouth when I saw a deer coming about 80 yards away. It was a little thick but as I dropped my food and got my gun off the log I could see it was agressively making a rub and pawing at the ground like a raging bull. It ended up coming right to me a minute later and I shot it at a whole 20 yards with my Browning A-Bolt 280 rem. I was an honest mile from the truck according to the GPS and I had luckily prepared for it by bringing a 4:1 pulley that I used to hoist the deer and cape it to pack it out.
11/16/02 - it was a special day for me and gave me confidence in rattling. The buck is my best yet and is on my wall at the moment. It looks bigger in the picture than it is, it grosses about 135.
