Story and Comments.: I set out to meet my hunting guide, Mike Vensevich, at 4:30 in the morning. I ate my krispee kreme donught, and we drank some coffee. We weren't even really sure of where we felt like going that morning. He said he had been seeing signs for a while of what could potentially be a "Monster". I agreed that we should go check it out, so we hopped in the truck and were on our way. That wit walked my butt all over that mountain. He finally said,"You sit right here, against this tree, and I'm gonna loop up around behind you, and walk through that thick lural. Hopefully I'll push something out of there for ya." This was no problem for me, so I plopped down right then and there. Mike walked up and disappeared from my sight, and I began to drift off to sleep. I was suddenly awoken about 25 minutes later, to what sounded like a tree falling down beside me. I opened my eyes, and fifteen feet in front of me came this buck, flying out of the lural! I quickly threw my gun up on my knee, and fired two hurried shots at the brown streak. It was the biggest buck I had ever seen. Mike came up a few minutes later, and said he heard me shoot. I was a nervous wreck, I could barely even talk I was so excited. He asked which way the deer ran, and if I hit it. I didn't think it was possible, at all. He goes, " Well this looks pretty promising!" There was a thick blood trail heading down the mountain. We trailed it for about 50 yds. when we came to some more lural. The blood went right up and over it, all 8 ft! We walked around to the other side and found a tree with a huge chunk of wood missing, and blood halfway up it. Then, right infront of us, there he was, body turned around a full 180 degrees, looking up at us. He was dead alright, but man was he amazing. I started a hootin and a hollerin and me a mike did a little dance, haha. His rack was beautiful. 18 inch spread on the inside, 21 inches on the outside. Some parts you can't even get your hand around it's so thick. It is 14 points, with a drop tine and he's about 5 years old, (and that's really old for deer around here). I just got the boone and crocket scores. I barely missed the record book, BARELY! For typical, you need a 140. He scored a 138 & 3/8. For non typical, you need a 160. He scored a 159 & 2/8. Well even though I missed the book, it was still an awesome experience, and I am surely to continue hunting. I have to thank my good friend Mike Venesevich for setting me up with such a great hunt. This was truly an amazing animal.
