Story and Comments.: I shot this 8-pointer on November 8 at approximately 5:15pm in Warren County. I got into my stand at about 3:15 using the typical doe in heat and grunting combination. I didn't have any action till 5:00pm when a doe passed through my area about 40 yards away. The wind shifted direction and the next thing I saw was this good buck trotting straight down at me. He slowed down and I was finally able to get a shot at him 12 feet from my stand. All I had was a back shot and I took it. The deer bolted for 50 yards and then stopped. He started to move again and I heard him crash 3 times and then nothing. Because of the light conditions I was not sure of where I hit him, so I waited for what seemed an eternity. I got down out of my stand and looked for the arrow. It was covered with blood and that was a relief. I walked back to my truck to get my lantern and there stood my brother and I told him "Lets go.". He knew exactly what I meant. We easily tracked the deer and found him about 65 yards away. The shot had passed just under the spine, severing the deer's main artery. The equipment I used was a Mathews Featherlight with Beman 340's and 100gr. Rocket Steelheads.
