I was wondering why it is you have to wash sent blocker clothing when you first get it. Is that really true or is it just some racket they have to sell more soap?

Well I've never seen them say that. Are you sure it didn't say to stick it in the clothes "dryer"? That will help with some reactivating of the carbon, and desorb some odors. But washing it won't hurt it, though there shouldn't be any oils or stains on it yet. I don't think there's any conspiracy with the soap manufacturers there.
I don't put much stock in this carbon clothing fad. It's not what it seems to be on the surface.

Possibly just to remove any "unknown" surface odors it picked up between manufacture and time of purchase . I don't put much weight in scent blocker stuff , they were successfully killing game a long time before it came on the scene ; it may have it's niche' though .

Some people do need something to spend their money on !.............I do have a scentblocker , face mask that covers the mouth nose and chin that I got @ Wal*maert on clearance for $ 1.50 . I use it in my tree stand in rifle season with my cap bill drawn low to break up my face , keep it warmer and [hopefully] help with breath . I'm a smoker and seen deer pick up the scent of cigarette smoke 150 yards away.

Hunt the wind and you'll be alright. My freind just went out and bought the new Drury set of Scent Blocker, and I've seen him get busted on many a time. Putting a special suit on is not going to cover all your scent! No matter what you do! All you have to do is keep your clothes in a bag with pine and leaves and you'll be fine! I used this for years, and this year I used scent wafers instead. Bad decision!!!! I was busted more this year than ever before!

[quote="matt75bronco"]Hunt the wind and you'll be alright.

I had my back to the wind , up against a tree in a snow squall . The snowflakes looked like tracers going away from me . I had some deer cross the field single file about 15o yards down wind and they immediatly stopped and froze when they hit my scentline from the cigarette smoke ; looking exactly right in my direction then panniced and took off running and scattering . I watch the wind direction .

The wind is so unpredictable. I hunt only in treestands which helps keep most of your scent above the deer. But when a front is rolling in the scent goes down to the ground. Just before a rainstorm, look at chimney smoke it will go down to the ground!

back to the wind.....should be face into the wind. if the deer came in front of you with the wind in your face they would never have smelled you. master the wind.

..........the wind was blowing hard enough I wasn't about to look into it ! The field was wide enough that I'd have been able to get a shot off at a buck had one shown . Not the ideal situation I know , but in this case it was where I found myself at the moment ; I made the best of it . I had been traveling accross the wind working my way around the field to go about where those deer crossed . I make it a habit not to relieve myself into the wind either . [buckteeth]

My point was ....... even in a strong wind a a long distance , deer have gret noses and instincts . [Shocked]

4.) When, and how often should my ScentBlocker suit be washed?
We recommend washing it once, the first time before wearing,(except when there is a removable liner) as this will remove any hand oils and odors from the outer camo fabric and liners. After that, wash only as absolutely necessary, as in when it becomes soiled with mud, blood, or other material. This will prolong the life of your suit by maintaining as much of the original carbon as possible for maximum scent adsorption.

thats what the site said about washing the sent blocker stuff. I dont know much on the huntinting clothing myself, I hunt in a blind with my boyfriend I get to be the camera girl, and I wear pink my usualy color, but I know enough to not smoke when I go with him, or fart either (I find that harder than the not smoking at times)

I don't know if scent blocker stuff is nessesary in a blind , but it couldn't hurt either ; especially going to an from your location . After showering , keeping your clothes scent free and wearing rubber boots , I've heard it's odors on your breath like coffee etc. that are the next biggest offenders . It "sounds" like you need "noise" blocking clothing instead ! *W* Are you sure he isn't replacing your hot seat with a whoopee cushion ?
