I haven't really looked for 20 gauge shells lately but I know one thing, ammo is very expensive, the shells for my .243 WSM are $25 dollars a box!!! [eyes33]

Good ! Sabots work better in those than smoothbores . I wouldn't worry about "cheap" , i'd go more with whatever worked best in your gun at any reasonable cost .

A lot of guys are switching from shotguns to muzzleloaders where that is legal because of better accuuracy and power .

I saw a box of (10) turkeys loads in Gander Mountain that wwas $ 75.oo

Any one looking for waterfow loads ? Wal*mart has them significantly reduced right now !

BTW : I was looking at the bragging board at my local Gander Mountain yesterday , and while they had a few pictures of some nice Bucks , they didn't have a lot ; most of the pictures looked old ! [Crying or Very sad]

Brenneke makes slugs at a very resonable price. They fly extremely well for a slug, I used them in my smooth bore 20 guage when nothing else would hold a consitant group. Check them out, http://www.brennekeusa.com/ They make both sabots and rifled slugs, either will work in a rifled barrel. Their slugs are unique in that they have a stablizing wad/jacket that fits around the slug.

They are not made for long range shooting, they are made for accuracy and consitancy. It will tell you right on the website what the maximum effective range of each load is. This is based on kenetic energy. Some rounds my surprise you, as they are only recommended for yardages up to 60 yards, others 80+ But like I said, these are made to be accurate and consistant rounds, not built for speed and long range shooting.

Another option... you can use regular rifled slugs in a rifled barrel. You will still experience increased accuracy and performance with rifled slugs in a rifled barrel, just not as much as if the slugs were sabots. If money is really an issue for you, than you may consider this, as rifled slugs are about as cheap of ammunition as your going to get.

Sabots are going to run you atleast $10 for a box of 5 (from what I have seen). The sabots I use are $17 dollars a box. Yes, expensive... but not when you only have to shoot at a deer once and you know it's down. If I can harvest 3 deer with one box of shells (2 shells for the target range, and 1 for each deer) than the 17 dollars doesn't sound too bad.

The price of brass alone has gone through the roof, I am guessing it has something to do with being at war.

Now remember cheaper is not always going to be an equal to the more expensive loads.
You should go buy what shoots the most consistent.
Remington ammo shoots like $ht in most of my rifles, but my Ar and garand love the remington and the upc brand ammo. Now switch to my varmint rifle, this rifle loves the moly coated V-Max, Put a remington load in the rifle and you would think the barrel is bent, and with enough shots I may be able to produce a keyhole on paper, yeah that bad.

Hey Koko we need to hook up and do some chuck hunting nice day the grass is still short hint, hint [eyeing]

The price of copper electrical wire has shot through the roof too , and they're quoting "the war" as the reason for that ; so you're probably close .

I'd do some `chuck hunting while the grass is short ! [hint-hint]

..........and before mine starts growing too much !
