As a result of a death in the family, I need to dispose of some weapons. I hope I will learn the appx. value of these items. First, a Remington Gamemaster model 760 in 30-.06SPRG caliber. Second, a J.C. Higgins model 20 12ga pump action shotgun, 2¾". Any help appreciated.

Hard to tell without seeing the firearms in person. Value can vary a lot depending on condition. You'd be best off trying to find an honest gun dealer in your area and have them appraise them. A gun shop would be the easiest as they would have the best access to the federal transfer papers that must be filled out in order to sell the weapons.

Go to www.gunbroker.com and type in the type. It can give you a base line on what ballpark your talking about.

The 760 may be worth a bit depending on condition, age and style as some of these are highly sought after.

Dave's right, it's hard to give even a ballpark without a visual inspection. Try getting yourself a Gun Trader Guide from a bookstore and maybe even Walmart would carry them. If you have an Ollies store near you check there. You can usually find last years edition for about $5 or so and values don't change much one year to the next.
This book will list the different variations of a model and also give you a couple values based on condition. Gun shows are another place to get an idea, but figure they run slightly high.

I understand anyone's reluctance to assess value sight unseen. Although I have pictures, taken recently, it still must be difficult to do. I will check into the websites suggested below. I am very reluctant to try local gun dealers. I'm in Delaware. The local gun dealers here would steal a hot stove. I also have what I imagine is a very common J.C. Higgins Model 20 12 ga 2¾" shotgun and a Musket gun that I will see for the first time today. As you can probably tell, I am not a hunter so I apologize for stepping where I don't belong but the advice was, and is, appreciated.

No problem, your always welcome here. Yes, some people are always trying to get something for nothing. Dealers buy them with the intent to resell them so they have to figure in a profit. But individuals will pay the better price because they are going to keep it for themselves. If you have to use a dealer, make it clear you aren't going to sell them, you just want an assessment of their price. That will eliminate his bias and get you a more honest appraisal.

De3159,
your right about the local dealers here (really only 2). I would be intersted in the 30.06 depending on the condition. My father in law is an antquie gun dealer, So the musket might be something he would be intersted in. I am not sure where you are located. I am in Newark. PM me your number or emai. I would love to see pictures or the gun.

Not sure if you have any stores like Bass Pro or Cabelas in your area, but I tend to find them a better place to "value" guns compared to smal gun dealers. But getting a book from the local book store would be a good starting point! You are more then welcome to ask us anything at all! And dont let people under-offer you on those guns. As mentioned, some of the older remington game masters are worth some money if the condition is good. Best of luck and let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!
