Stone. Theres several guys from my area that hunt Ohio. They claim hunting Ohio deer is like hunting barnyard deer compared to hunting the big woods of north central Pa. Maybe thats why more Pa hunters are going to Ohio.

Maybe they should leave the barn?

Are you a youngster? Just gullible? Or just stirring a pot with foolish statements?

No, the deer in Ohio are just like the deer in Pa. except they are bigger and healthier due to the available food supply and the endless areas they can hide where they can't be hunted.

If not for the abundance, they would be significantly more difficult to hunt as they can easily escape and evade.

I would much rather hunt in the big open woods of Pa. where I grew up hunting and love to be. After living in Ohio since leaving the military in 1979 I had never hunted in Ohio until I bought a hunting camp 9 years ago and started to network and find huntable private land as the public hunting in Ohio is extremely limited and over hunted. It took several years for me to learn how to hunt in Ohio's tiny pockets of land and as it turns out that time frame coincided with when the hunting in Pa. went down hill.

Ohio bucks live to be old, big, and wary, due to the abundance of quality food, the health of the herd, the lay of the land, and the difficultly in harvesting them, so whoever told you that could not be any more wrong.

The reason people come to Ohio is because A) they have deer and B) they have big trophy buck. Land owners are leasing their land for big money now as Ohio becomes more and more popular, it's actually becoming a problem!

Holy Smokes!!! Talk about a one-eighty! When anyone else says that stuff he calls it BS and cuts them up. Arguing vigorously against those claims.

So we can deduct from his comments above:
- that a large amount of food and cover(habitat) makes deer bigger and healthier.
- deer can get that way by having private land with no hunting.
- when deer are not in abundance(smaller herd) they are significantly more difficult to hunt because they can easily stay out of sight.
- and because deer can get better food, have better health, and are harder to harvest; they can get older, bigger, and wiser

Geez, who would'a thunk it???

Holy crap. Take a few months off to take care of some family business and all heck breaks loose.

Argue all you want, but with respect to this season alone, I have NEVER seen this many large mature bucks taken as I have seen this year. The pics in the sports stores alone are just amazing, and that doesn't touch the ones that have made the newspaper.

I hear alot of bickering, but if it's so bad in PA at present, then how are all of these hunters landing mature monsters right here in PA. Can't all be Photoshopped can they?
