Within the past 10 years the PA State Supreme Court ruled that local municipalities cannot pass ordinances which regulate hunting more strictly than PA Game Laws. Does anyone know the case name? And date if possible?

I have done some research and found a case named "DUFF". And I've found references to a law called Municipal Control Over Hunting, but I cannot find the law so that I can read it. I'm going to continue trying.

Anyway, can anyone help me? I recently heard a PA Game Officer tell a group of people that the local government could post No Hunting signs where ever the city chooses. I thought that this was untrue. And that the local government does NOT have the right to post "No Hunting" signs on public land.

I've been told that "Greenways" are the only areas allowed to be posted per state law. Is this true? Anyone know?

Thanks.........

My farm is within the borough of a small town. 2 years ago my son shot a ground hog on the farm, outside safety zone. I was in the barn, and here came 2 police officers driving in lane, they jump out of the car, and come at me like i committed a big crime. They said its illegal to shoot in the borough. Up to that point, we had been shooting on the farm for 16 years and never heard a complaint. Man i was hot! They said we are allowed to hunt on the farm, but not shoot! NUTS!!! Thank goodness the borough council got their heads together and changed the ordinance. Its now OK to shoot outside safety zone.

Good. I'm glad the council got their act together. Nobody should be able to tell you that you cannot shoot on your own property. Besides, I think your son would've been covered by state game law anyway. As long as you're shooting at game (or adhering to state game laws, which I believe your son was) then no local ordinance can further restrict your ability to hunt as long as your legally allowed on the land. Which of course you are because you own the land.

I hope the cops weren't "acting stupidly."
