A friend of mine once told me that he used to put out film cannisters with cotton balls in them soaked with vanilla extract and that they worked as deer attractors.

Anyone else hear this?

Thanks.

I think your friend was drinking vanilla extract. [Smile] Just kiddin. I've never heard of that but I like to leave a trail of ice cream sandwiches to my stand. Only in pre rut situations.

Man you guys are funnnnnnnee.

I don't know about vanilla, But I will tell you what works.

http://westwindwhitetails.com/scents.html <------------------- Right here

If you hunt 2f, Don't use it . That is where I hunt and It don't work in 2f.
So please use it in your own hunting area and not in mine.

Ok....... It works everywhere, I just don't want guys In my area having the same advantage as me.

Truth be told, I have seen Paul collect these deer scents and I have used them.
If you only take my advise on anything hunting related, take it on these deer lures.
They are the best you will ever buy.
You cant take that to the Bank!!

Actually Aqualung, I have heard of this. Some of the curiosity scents out there resemble a vanilla extract smell. I believe Bob Kirshners is one of them if I remember correctly. I can see where it might. It's a sweet smell that's not common, but yet not an alarming or pungent type smell.

I tried pure vanilla extract as a cover scent about 4 years ago. Stinkin deer caught one whif of the stuff and they scooted off into the woods snorting like I never heard before.

John is right, I've heard story after story of how well the westwind stuff works.
Thanks!

I always wondered why deer pee was so expensive until I figured out that it's hard to train those deer to urinate directly into those litlte bottles........especially those does......... [Beating a dead horse.]
